has learned that four passengers abducted by gunmen along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Oyo State have been successfully rescued following a coordinated security operation involving multiple agencies.
According to the Oyo State Police Command, the victims were kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday when armed attackers reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and blocked a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti to Kishi.
The assailants forcefully dragged four passengers from the vehicle and took them into the surrounding forest, sparking immediate concern among residents and travellers along the busy route.
Police authorities said the incident was quickly reported, prompting the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, to order an urgent rescue operation. Divisional Police Officers in Igbeti and Kishi were immediately directed to mobilise personnel and resources to secure the safe return of the victims.
A joint security task force made up of police operatives, the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and other local security stakeholders launched an intensive bush-combing operation across the forest areas where the victims were believed to have been taken.
Security officials said the sustained pressure from the search operation forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee the area.
All four passengers were later found unharmed and safely reunited with their families.
The police command praised members of the joint security team for their swift response and teamwork, noting that collaboration among security agencies remains vital in protecting lives and property across the state.
Authorities also expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde for providing the necessary support and resources to aid security operations.
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects. Security operatives have intensified intelligence-driven operations in the area to ensure the kidnappers are apprehended and brought to justice.
The police have also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as part of efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.
