Ibadan, February 18, 2026 –
A woman who publicly exposed alleged extortion of students and commuters by Nigerian Police officers along the Igbo-Ora–Eruwa road in Oyo State has been arrested by the Ibarapa Area Command and transferred to Ibadan. Reports indicate she has been denied access to legal representation.
The woman gained attention after sharing a viral video in which she detailed what she described as widespread abuse of power by officers of the Nigerian Police Force. In the footage obtained exclusively by SUNTV Global Channel, she questioned why police officers repeatedly stopped innocent travelers and demanded bribes, despite receiving federal salaries.
“It seems like a play, but it wasn’t,” she said in the video. “Are the Nigerian Police not being given salaries anymore? When you get to Igbo-Ora en route to Eruwa, the number of police officers on the road is countless. They stop motorcyclists, especially those riding ladies’ bikes, and extort them. Someone may be forced to pay N20,000 to N30,000—for what?”
She went further to describe a disturbing incident involving students: “Up to 40 students, returning home for holidays, were stopped and extorted. While they cried and pleaded, officers still collected money. Why? Is life a war zone?”
A family source confirmed her arrest on Tuesday and alleged that attempts to secure a lawyer were blocked. “A lawyer arrived, but the Ibarapa Area Command said she had been transferred to Ibadan and denied the lawyer access,” the source said.
