SUNTV Global Channel has learned that a suspected bandit disguised as a beggar has been arrested in Igbaja, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, raising fresh concerns over new infiltration tactics being used by criminal groups.
The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday evening by local security operatives following intelligence reports that bandits fleeing their hideouts in Baba Sango and Oro-Ago are spreading into other communities in Kwara South.
Speaking to SUNTV Global Channel, the Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch for Kwara South Senatorial District, Elder Oyin Zubair, confirmed the development and described it as part of a troubling pattern.
According to him, the suspect had been moving from town to town disguised as a beggar in an attempt to blend into the community and gather information without attracting suspicion.
“This arrest confirms a disturbing trend,” Zubair said. “These criminals now disguise themselves as beggars and sometimes even pretend to be mentally unstable persons just to evade security checks.”
Security sources revealed that some bandits now deploy informants who pose as vulnerable individuals to monitor communities, identify targets, and map out escape routes ahead of attacks or kidnappings.
During interrogation, the arrested suspect reportedly disclosed the locations of his sponsors, identifying Kaara Market, Ajasepo, and Olayinka near Oke-Ode as key operational points. He allegedly stated that these sponsors coordinate their movements and provide logistical support.
Authorities have since handed the suspect over to the Kwara State Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, security officials are urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities, warning that criminal groups may increasingly rely on disguises to infiltrate communities.
