A major administrative shake-up has taken place in Kano State as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially relieved the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his duties with immediate effect.
The decision was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa, who explained that the move is part of the administration’s broader strategy to reform and strengthen the state civil service.
According to the statement, the action is aimed at improving discipline, efficiency, and overall service delivery across government institutions in the state.
“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions,” the statement read.
Despite the abrupt change, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Musa for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Following the removal, the governor appointed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, as Acting Head of Service. She will serve in the role pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.
Governor Yusuf also directed the outgoing Head of Service to formally hand over the responsibilities of the office to Maimota no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The development comes amid notable political changes in the state following Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress, a move that has reportedly triggered adjustments within Kano’s political and administrative structure.
Observers say the latest decision may signal further reforms within the state’s governance system as the administration continues efforts to reshape key institutions.
