Early results have begun emerging from wards across the Federal Capital Territory as voting concludes in the ongoing Area Council elections.
At Polling Unit 016 in Nyanya, preliminary chairmanship figures showed the All Progressives Congress leading with 13 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party secured one vote, while the Social Democratic Party polled two votes. The African Democratic Congress recorded five votes, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance got one vote.
In the councillorship contest at the same unit, APC scored 11 votes, PDP had one, SDP recorded none, ADC secured four, and APGA polled one.
Despite having 754 registered voters at the unit, only 22 were accredited, highlighting very low turnout.
At Polling Unit 091, also in Nyanya Ward, APC polled 20 votes in the chairmanship race. PDP and ADC recorded one vote each, while the BOOT Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party also got one vote each.
For councillorship at the same unit, APC secured 11 votes, PDP led with 12 votes, and BOOT recorded one vote. Out of 428 registered voters, only 24 were accredited.
The Independent National Electoral Commission is conducting elections for six Area Council chairmen and 62 councillors across 2,822 polling units, with more than 1.6 million registered voters expected to participate.
Collation of official results is ongoing, amid widespread reports of low voter turnout across several polling units in the territory.
