The Nigerian Presidency has condemned social media influencer , popularly known as VDM, over the circulation of an alleged fake audio recording purportedly linked to President .
Presidential aide , in a statement released on Wednesday, accused VDM of spreading false information capable of misleading the public and creating tension across the country.
According to Onanuga, the controversial audio clip allegedly containing comments about insecurity, politics, and the 2027 elections was fabricated and should not have been circulated on social media.
He described the development as an abuse of digital platforms and insisted that individuals responsible for spreading manipulated content must face legal consequences.
The controversy began after VDM shared a video online claiming to have obtained an audio recording allegedly featuring President Tinubu discussing insecurity in the South-East, political opposition, and plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
In the viral clip, the voice alleged to be that of the President made several controversial remarks regarding the country’s security challenges, opposition figures, and foreign loans.
However, the Presidency strongly denied the authenticity of the recording, maintaining that the audio was fake and deliberately designed to damage the image of the President and create unnecessary panic.
Onanuga warned that the spread of unverified and manipulated materials online poses serious risks to national stability, public trust, and democratic institutions.
As of the time of filing this report, VDM had not publicly responded to the Presidency’s statement or the allegations made against him.
The Presidency has also not confirmed whether formal legal proceedings would immediately be initiated over the matter.
The incident has continued to generate reactions on social media, with debates growing over misinformation, digital responsibility, and the role of influencers in shaping political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
