Residents of Doma community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State have been thrown back into fear and uncertainty after armed bandits carried out a fresh attack on the area, despite an existing peace and surrender agreement brokered with local authorities.
SUNTV Global gathered on Tuesday that the attackers stormed Doma in large numbers, opening fire indiscriminately on civilians and setting several houses and vehicles ablaze, forcing residents to flee for safety.
The latest assault has shocked locals, coming barely months after a peace deal reportedly reached between Faskari LGA stakeholders and bandit leaders. The agreement was intended to end hostilities and encourage displaced residents to return to their communities.
Confirming the development, Katsina-based security analyst, Bakatsine, raised an alarm over what he described as an ongoing attack in Doma and nearby settlements within Faskari LGA.
He warned that civilians were in grave danger and called for the immediate deployment of security forces to halt the violence.
“Urgent deployment of security personnel is needed in Doma and surrounding communities in Faskari LGA to protect civilians, stop the ongoing violence, and prevent further loss of lives and property,” Bakatsine said. “Immediate action could save lives.”
As of the time of filing this report, casualties were feared, though the exact number of those killed or injured could not be independently confirmed.
Faskari Local Government Area remains one of the worst-hit flashpoints of banditry in Katsina State, plagued for years by deadly attacks, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and large-scale displacement.
It would be recalled that on September 17, 2025, a notorious bandit commander, Isya Akwashi Garwa, reportedly released 28 abducted persons in the area as part of a peace arrangement with local authorities. The victims were mainly residents of Mairua, Kanen-Haki, and Yar Dabaru communities.
Local officials had described the release as a breakthrough in ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring peace to the troubled region.
Security source Zagazola Makama also disclosed on X that community leaders at the time welcomed the move and urged all armed groups to respect and sustain the peace process.
Tuesday’s attack, however, raises fresh concerns over the fragility of negotiated peace deals and the continued vulnerability of rural communities across Katsina State.
