The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a Nigerian TikToker known as Mirabel (@mirab351), following widespread public anger and intense reactions across social media.
Authorities confirmed that urgent action was taken immediately after the case was brought to their attention.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Commissioner of Police ordered the Divisional Police Officer in Ibafo to swiftly establish contact with the survivor once reports of the incident surfaced.
Police said the victim later appeared at the Ibafo Police Station, where officers documented initial details. Preliminary findings showed that the alleged assault occurred within the Ogijo area, prompting a transfer of the case to the appropriate jurisdiction.
The survivor was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment and assessment before being moved to the Ogijo Police Station for further investigation procedures.
Authorities also disclosed that due to her fragile physical and emotional condition, she has been referred for advanced medical care while investigations continue.
Police reassured the public of their commitment to protecting the survivor and ensuring that anyone found responsible faces prosecution under Nigerian law.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed it had reached a close associate of the survivor, who verified she had been discharged from hospital care.
The agency explained that although it responded quickly after receiving public alerts online, the incident occurred outside its jurisdiction in Ogun State. It said all relevant information has been handed over to authorities in Ogun State for further action.
Reports indicate the alleged assault happened on February 15. In a viral video, the survivor claimed an unidentified man forced entry into her apartment, restrained her, and threatened that his family influence could prevent justice.
The case has triggered nationwide calls for accountability, with many Nigerians demanding transparency and warning against any attempt to interfere with the investigation.
Police authorities have urged the survivor to continue cooperating with investigators, reiterating that sexual violence is a serious criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.
