The campaign council of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed allegations linking the governor to an alleged oath-taking activity ahead of the August 15 governorship election, describing a circulating social media video as a misleading attempt to damage his campaign.
The Imole Campaign Council, in a statement signed by its Media Committee Chairman, Representative Bamidele Salam, said Governor Adeleke had no involvement in the reported oath-taking activity and neither authorised nor participated in any such act.
The statement followed claims by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, which attempted to associate the governor with the video making rounds online.
Reacting to the allegation, the Adeleke campaign described it as a desperate move by opposition figures to create controversy ahead of the election.
“The Imole Campaign Council has described as laughable and defeatist the attempt to link Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke to an alleged oath-taking video currently circulating on social media,” the statement said.
The council added that it was investigating the authenticity, source and circumstances surrounding the video, while insisting that Adeleke had never directed, approved or encouraged anyone to take an oath in relation to the election.
According to the campaign team, the governor believes voters should be allowed to make their political choices freely without pressure, intimidation or coercion.
“Governor Adeleke does not need oaths, threats, intimidation or any form of coercion to secure the support of the people of Osun State,” the statement added.
The council said the governor’s campaign was built around his administration’s achievements, relationship with residents and plans for the future, rather than any alleged secret practices.
It accused the APC of relying on an unverified social media video instead of focusing on policy issues and governance records.
The campaign council further challenged the opposition to prepare for the outcome of the August 15 election, saying Adeleke would face voters based on his record in office.
“The people of Osun are not being asked to vote for Governor Adeleke because of any oath. They are being asked to vote based on what they have seen and experienced,” the statement concluded.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with major political parties intensifying campaigns ahead of the poll.
