The Nigerian military has recorded another breakthrough in its counter-insurgency operations following the arrest of four suspects during separate security operations in Borno State, including a man alleged to be a Sudanese national, a woman said to be an illegal immigrant from Ghana, and two brothers suspected of supplying logistics to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.
According to military sources, the arrests were made on July 19 by troops of Operation HADIN KAI during coordinated operations in Askira/Uba and Damboa Local Government Areas.
In the first operation, troops operating in the Lassa–Dilli axis of Askira/Uba LGA arrested Musa Fashir, 32, who is alleged to be a Sudanese national currently under investigation for suspected links to terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-East.
Also taken into custody was Mary Florence, 36, who reportedly identified herself during preliminary interrogation as an illegal immigrant from Ghana. Military authorities said both suspects are undergoing profiling, identity verification, and further investigations to determine their immigration status and any possible connection to terrorist organisations.
In a separate operation conducted during a farm protection patrol in the Nzuda area of Damboa LGA, troops arrested two brothers—Audu Abdullahi, 25, and Shettima Abdullahi, 30—over allegations that they were transporting supplies to suspected ISWAP fighters operating within the Wajiroko axis.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects include bicycles, a mobile phone with SIM cards, an identity card, pesticide containers, pain-relief medication, a portable solar panel, a rechargeable torchlight, locally made knives, and other materials believed to be intended for logistical support.
The military said all four suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. Authorities have not announced any formal charges, and the allegations remain under investigation.
Security officials noted that the operations form part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to dismantle terrorist networks, intercept logistics suppliers, strengthen border security, and prevent the infiltration of foreign terrorist elements into Nigeria.
The military also appealed to residents of the North-East to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to the fight against insurgency.
