A serving officer of the Nigerian Mobile Police Force, Inspector Jido Ahmed, has been arrested over his alleged involvement in an armed robbery that led to the death of a fuel attendant in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The officer, attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Kontagora but reportedly on special duty in Agwara, was apprehended following the incident which occurred on April 15, 2026, at about 2:40 p.m. at Garun Mallam Filling Station, located behind BCG Garage in Kontagora.
According to security sources, two armed men arrived at the filling station on a motorcycle, with one reportedly dressed in a Mobile Police uniform. The suspects initially posed as customers before launching the attack.
After purchasing fuel, the assailants allegedly demanded money from the attendant. When the victim, identified as 20-year-old Jibrin Inuwa, resisted, he was shot in the chest. The attackers fled the scene with an undisclosed sum of money.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police sources said a tactical response team was immediately deployed after the incident was reported. Officers from the ‘A’ Division in Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, tracked the suspects to the Dadinkowa area behind a vigilante office.
A gun battle reportedly ensued, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects. The individual, later identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed, was shot in the leg, disarmed, and taken into custody.
An AK-47 rifle bearing serial number 38262, along with 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, was recovered from him.
The injured officer was initially taken to the General Hospital in Kontagora and later transferred to the Police Clinic in Minna for further treatment.
Security sources said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect who remains at large, while investigations into the incident continue.
As of the time of filing this report, attempts to obtain an official response from the Niger State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the Police Public Relations Officer were not returned.
