Kwara Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader, Alhaja Tawakalitu Agaka, popularly known as Hajia Tawa, reportedly escaped an alleged attack on Saturday after youths suspected to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stormed an empowerment programme organised at her family residence in Kwara State.
The programme, organised by Agaka, reportedly involved the distribution of cash gifts to about 200 widows, women and youths.
According to accounts surrounding the incident, the event initially proceeded peacefully before a group of youths believed to be PDP supporters arrived at the venue and allegedly attempted to disrupt the programme.
A video reportedly obtained from the scene showed some of the youths shouting “ole” (thief) through loudspeakers and microphones, while others could be heard chanting “Sai Kayi” and calling out Agaka.
The situation reportedly became tense as the youths allegedly threatened to assault the APC women leader if she proceeded with the empowerment programme.
Security operatives subsequently moved in and formed a barrier between Agaka and the protesting youths, preventing them from gaining access to her.
Agaka, who is the Kwara Central APC Women Leader, is also reportedly a relative of the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Kale Kawu.
The incident has raised concerns among APC members and supporters in Kwara Central, particularly amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Some APC members reportedly described the incident as an attempt to introduce political thuggery and hooliganism into Kwara politics, warning that confrontations between supporters of rival political parties could escalate into violence.
They called for restraint among political actors and their supporters, stressing the need for disagreements to be handled peacefully and through lawful democratic channels.
It was not immediately clear whether any arrests were made or whether anyone sustained injuries during the reported confrontation.
