The Ham Community Development Association (HAMCDA) Worldwide has appealed to Nigerians to allow the family of the late Mary Habila to mourn in peace, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as police investigations into her death continue.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the association expressed condolences to Habila’s family and described her as a dedicated physiotherapist whose service positively impacted many lives, particularly in Ebonyi State.
Mary Habila died on June 27, 2026, at the residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, in Uburu, Ebonyi State. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.
HAMCDA expressed concern over what it described as the circulation of unverified claims and speculation on social media, warning that such reports could cause further pain to the grieving family and interfere with ongoing investigations.
The association urged Nigerians to allow security agencies to carry out their duties professionally and transparently while respecting the privacy of Habila’s family during this difficult period.
According to the group, it has been in contact with Habila’s father and the family’s legal representative and appealed for understanding and support as they prepare for her burial.
HAMCDA also acknowledged the Minister of Works for notifying the police and medical personnel following the incident and expressed confidence that the Nigeria Police Force would conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the facts surrounding Habila’s death.
The association further extended its condolences to Habila’s fiancé, family, friends and colleagues, describing her as a committed professional whose untimely death has left the Ham community in mourning.
Meanwhile, police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mary Habila’s death remain ongoing, with authorities yet to announce the official cause of death.
