Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will be an easy victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to deliver massive support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Fubara made the bold declaration on Friday during the flag-off of the Rivers Airport Bypass project — an event that also marked his formal announcement as a member of the APC.
The governor described himself as the party’s leading figure in the state, proudly stating:
“I am not just a member of the All Progressives Congress; I am the number one. I have collected my card — Form 001. From this moment, I am in the APC with all my chest and heart.”
He pledged unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that Rivers State must reciprocate the president’s support by delivering overwhelming votes.
“The message is clear: We are going to do everything to make the 2027 election for Mr President a smooth ride in Rivers State,” Fubara said. “The only way we can continue to tell Mr President ‘thank you’ is to support him.”
Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on December 9 follows closely on the heels of a major political realignment in the state, after 15 members of the Rivers House of Assembly — including Speaker Martin Amaewhule — also defected to the ruling party.
However, the political atmosphere remains tense. On Thursday, the assembly accused the governor of unauthorized spending and awarding contracts without following due process. This comes just a day after Fubara denied having any ongoing conflict with the lawmakers, claiming he has repeatedly sought a meeting with the assembly leadership since his reinstatement in September — an effort he says has been ignored.
But Speaker Amaewhule rejected the governor’s claims, insisting that a meeting was held in September at the prompting of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and accusing Fubara of failing to keep to the resolutions reached.
As the back-and-forth intensifies, the APC appears determined to fortify its grip on Rivers State — with Governor Fubara now positioned at the forefront of the party’s push to secure a decisive victory for Tinubu in 2027.
