RIVERS, NIGERIA — The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four people, including an official of the local security outfit OSPAC, following a deadly attack by gunmen in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
Police said the attack, which occurred on Wednesday, also left one person, identified as Obidi Emenike, with gunshot wounds. The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko (or the command spokesperson if updated), the command condemned the killings, describing the attack as a heinous act and a threat to the peace and security of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that security operatives had launched an investigation and intensified efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
According to the police, tactical teams have been deployed to the affected area, while intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
The Commissioner also urged members of community security groups and local vigilante outfits across Rivers State to work closely with the police under the supervision of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to strengthen security coordination and improve response to criminal activities.
The command appealed to residents to remain calm and assist investigators by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation, assuring the public that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging to sustain efforts aimed at restoring peace and bringing those behind the attack to justice.
