Leading African fintech company, , has dismissed reports alleging that the Nigerian government approved a $75 million investment into the firm, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.

The clarification comes after widespread reports—partly fueled by a now-deleted social media post attributed to a presidential aide—suggested that the administration of President Bola Tinubu had backed the investment through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MoFI).

The reports further claimed that Flutterwave was preparing for a $250 million Initial Public Offering (IPO), sparking excitement across Nigeria’s tech and financial sectors.

However, the company firmly rejected both claims, stating that no such government investment exists and that it is not currently close to launching an IPO.

According to Flutterwave, the circulating figures and fundraising narratives are incorrect, adding that there has been no official announcement regarding any public listing or IPO-related funding plans.

The company, founded by , stressed that its immediate focus remains on strengthening governance structures and ensuring operational stability rather than rushing into the stock market.

Agboola has previously noted that Flutterwave is working toward being IPO-ready, but has avoided giving any timeline for a public listing, emphasizing long-term preparation over speculation.

The company, valued at over $3 billion in previous funding rounds, has often been regarded as one of Africa’s strongest potential tech IPO candidates. However, shifting global market conditions and regulatory considerations have slowed expectations around a near-term listing.

Flutterwave also hinted in the past that when it eventually goes public, it may consider a domestic listing in Nigeria before exploring international exchanges.

For now, the fintech giant insists that no government investment deal or IPO plan is currently in motion, urging the public to disregard circulating misinformation.

The development highlights ongoing sensitivity around Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem, where government involvement and investor interest continue to attract intense public attention.
