A fire outbreak has affected part of the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja, damaging sections of the building’s third floor and triggering an emergency response.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the bank’s headquarters in Abuja’s Central Business District. The blaze engulfed parts of the administrative wing, sending thick smoke through sections of the multi-storey facility.
Emergency responders from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, supported by the bank’s internal safety team, arrived promptly and successfully contained the fire before it spread to other parts of the building.
In a statement issued after the incident, the bank’s management confirmed that the fire was largely restricted to executive offices and the main Board Room. It also assured customers, stakeholders, and the general public that critical financial records, digital infrastructure, and essential operational documents were not affected.
The bank further disclosed that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire, while damage assessment teams continue to evaluate the extent of the losses. Members of staff have been advised to await further administrative directives as recovery and assessment efforts continue.
