TARABA, NIGERIA — The management of Federal University Wukari (FUW) in Taraba State has announced a sweeping ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations and related activities within the university campus and its immediate surroundings.
The decision was approved during the university’s 76th regular Senate meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ate Kefas, as part of efforts to strengthen campus security, maintain public order, and ensure a peaceful academic environment.
Under the new directive, graduating students are prohibited from participating in sign-out processions, signing T-shirts and other materials, dancing, organized celebrations, group movements, convoys, and the spraying of money during passing-out events.
The university also banned gatherings and parties around its main gates and along the Katsina-Ala–Jalingo Highway, warning that such activities often disrupt traffic, threaten public safety, and endanger lives and property.
University authorities said the decision followed recommendations from a committee set up to review the impact of sign-out activities on campus security and academic operations.
Security personnel have been directed to strictly enforce the new regulations, with any student found violating the policy facing disciplinary action in line with the institution’s rules.
The university appealed to students, parents, guardians, alumni, and members of the public to support the directive, stressing that the measures are intended to protect lives, preserve property, and provide a safe and conducive environment for learning.
