Fresh tension has engulfed residents of Ira, Inaja, and Aho communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State after a suspected terrorist group allegedly dropped a threatening letter warning of an imminent attack.
The letter, discovered Thursday morning at a market in Ira, triggered widespread panic across the communities, with security agencies swiftly holding emergency operational meetings alongside local government officials.
According to sources, the authors of the message identified themselves as “Nigeria Terrorist Association (NTA)” and claimed they had relocated from Kaiama Local Government Area, vowing to strike the affected communities “anytime soon.”
Residents say the threat has heightened anxiety in the region, especially following the recent deadly attack in Woro community in Kaiama LGA, where over 160 people were reportedly killed by suspected fighters linked to Boko Haram.
Parts of the letter seen by local sources contained disturbing warnings, including claims that the group had already gathered intelligence on the communities and would launch an attack without fear of local resistance.
Security sources disclosed that troops at the Forward Operating Base in Ilemona have intensified patrols and surveillance operations across the affected areas. Other security agencies are also said to be on high alert to prevent any possible infiltration.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, advising them to report suspicious movements promptly.
The threatened communities lie along a corridor considered vulnerable due to forest routes linking parts of Kwara to neighboring states — a factor security experts say increases the risk of insurgent movement.
As of the time of this report, the Kwara State Government had not released an official statement specifically addressing the alleged threat letter.
Meanwhile, fear continues to grow among residents, many of whom worry about a possible repeat of the recent Woro massacre as uncertainty grips the region.
