A dispatch rider has died following a multiple-vehicle crash involving two trucks at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, in Lagos State.
The accident, which occurred on Saturday, involved a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV, and the dispatch rider.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, saying its Eagle Response Team responded promptly after receiving reports of the crash.
According to preliminary findings by the agency, the collision was linked to reckless driving and improper use of the road by the two truck drivers.
LASEMA said the FAW truck reportedly collided with the Iveco truck while both drivers were allegedly struggling for right of way. The Iveco truck subsequently struck the dispatch rider from behind.
The dispatch rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from the Okota Division evacuated the deceased and deposited the remains at a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.
Following the crash, the two trucks were removed from the main carriageway and moved to a designated lay-by to prevent further obstruction and allow traffic to flow.
LASEMA personnel and police officers remained at the scene throughout the recovery operation before the road was subsequently declared safe for motorists and other road users.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution on the roads.
He warned drivers against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and competing for lanes, stressing the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations.
LASEMA also reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable road users, including dispatch riders, cyclists and pedestrians, while strengthening emergency response operations across Lagos State.
