Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over his remarks on the importance of political access to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Davido took a swipe at the governor after AbdulRazaq urged voters in Osun State to elect a governor who would have direct access to the presidency and be able to attract federal benefits to the state.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally ahead of the Osun State governorship election, AbdulRazaq stressed that political access to the President could help a state secure federal projects and other benefits.
“There is a need to have a governor that can go to Aso Rock and bring goodies to Osun State. You need a governor that has access to the President,” the governor said.
However, Davido challenged the argument, questioning what such access had achieved for residents of Kwara State.
In a response to AbdulRazaq’s statement, the singer wrote: “Your accessibility to the Villa brought nothing but insecurity to Kwarans… these so-called leaders are watery.”
The comment has added a new dimension to the increasingly heated political discourse surrounding the Osun governorship election.
Davido has been publicly involved in discussions about the election and has previously expressed concerns about security and the protection of voters.
The singer had also called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay attention to developments in Osun State, urging authorities to ensure that voters can exercise their constitutional rights without intimidation or violence.
The latest exchange between Davido and AbdulRazaq has further intensified debate over whether political proximity to the federal government necessarily translates into improved security, development and better living conditions for citizens.
With political campaigns gathering momentum ahead of the Osun election, issues surrounding security, governance, federal influence and the credibility of the electoral process are expected to remain major talking points.
