The Labour Party (LP) has raised serious concerns following a violent incident at its National Headquarters in Abuja, where the party claims hoodlums allegedly led by its expelled former National Chairman, Julius Abure, vandalised parts of the facility.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the party said the attackers stormed the premises and carried out acts of destruction, targeting mainly the exterior section of the building.
According to the party leadership, the group forcefully pulled down a large billboard mounted at the entrance of the national secretariat, leaving visible damage to the party’s signage and branding materials.
LP described the development as “very sad and unfortunate,” stating that the alleged involvement of Abure reflects the intensity of the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
The party insisted that Abure remains expelled, stressing that any actions taken by him in relation to the party are illegal and amount to criminal conduct.
The sudden invasion reportedly caused panic among staff members and people around the premises, though no injuries were immediately confirmed.
While the exact cost of the damage has not yet been determined, images circulating online show destroyed signboards and damaged structures at the entrance of the headquarters.
The party leadership is expected to address the media soon and has called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
Efforts to obtain a response from Julius Abure or his representatives regarding the allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
