A resident of Oduk community, Rivers State, has accused the Executive Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Eugene Chita Epelle, of supervising her alleged assault after she exposed the dilapidated condition of a local secondary school.
Winnie Miller recounted her ordeal during a press conference, saying the incident occurred last Sunday around noon, shortly after she returned from church service. The confrontation, she alleges, was triggered by a viral video she posted online showing the school in disrepair, which drew widespread public attention.
According to Miller, Chairman Epelle arrived at her residence with security personnel and confronted her mother over the video. She claims the chairman accused her of trying to damage his reputation.
“He said I made a post about the secondary school in Oduk and that the video had caused him to receive calls from several people, claiming I had insulted his office,” Miller said.
She further alleged that the chairman instructed his younger brother, Monday Chita Epelle, to physically assault her. Miller described the attack as brutal: “He strangled my neck, and I still have injuries. He even picked up a shovel to strike my head, if not for a passerby, Godstime Kakoro, who intervened.”
Miller added that the chairman did nothing to stop the assault, standing by as she was attacked. Her mother was also reportedly pushed during the confrontation and sustained injuries.
SUNTV Global Channel reached out to the Ahoada West Local Government chairmanship office for comment, but no response was immediately available.
This incident has reignited calls for urgent attention to both the state of public schools in Rivers State and the alleged misuse of authority by local officials.
