Fresh political tension has erupted in Rivers State following reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , has allegedly directed his loyalists within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to top political sources, the directive was reportedly issued on Friday night shortly after the Supreme Court delivered its final judgment on the lingering PDP leadership crisis.
Sources revealed that by Saturday, several loyal PDP candidates in Rivers State had already begun obtaining APC nomination forms, signalling what observers describe as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Wike has moved on following the Supreme Court judgment. He instructed his loyal PDP candidates in Rivers State to defect to the APC, and they immediately started picking up nomination forms,” a source familiar with the development disclosed.
The move comes amid growing uncertainty within the PDP after the apex court reportedly dismissed both the cross appeal linked to Wike’s camp and the main appeal filed by the faction allegedly backed by Oyo State Governor, .
However, the crisis deepened after Abdulrahman Mohammed, who claims to be the PDP National Chairman, rejected the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment currently circulating online.
In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Haruna Jagunda, the group insisted the document lacked official certification, stamp, and authorized signatures required for valid court records.
The PDP faction further argued that even if the document were authentic, the contents still confirmed the defeat of Kabiru Turaki’s faction from the Federal High Court up to the Supreme Court.
Political analysts say the latest development could reshape the political structure in Rivers State and further strengthen APC’s influence ahead of future elections.
