Three people have been killed and four others injured, including a toddler, after two suspected gunmen exchanged fire during a popular food festival in Seattle, United States.
The incident occurred at the Bite of Seattle food festival at Seattle Center at approximately 6 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 26, sending festival attendees running for safety as gunshots rang out.
Seattle Police Department Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis said preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting may have resulted from an exchange of gunfire between two individuals.
According to police, one person described as a young suspect has been arrested and is currently being questioned by investigators. Authorities are still searching for another individual believed to have been involved in the shooting.
Two firearms were reportedly recovered from the scene as detectives from the homicide and gun violence reduction units continued their investigation.
The death toll increased to three after one of the victims, who had initially been hospitalised in critical condition, later died from their injuries.
Four other victims, including the toddler, were said to be in stable condition.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson described the incident as a devastating tragedy and expressed concern over the recent rise in gun violence in the city.
Authorities have not yet established a motive for the shooting. However, police said they do not currently believe there is an immediate threat to the wider community.
Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots before police officers in the area responded to the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the confrontation and identify the second suspected shooter.
