The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the interrogation of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following his arrest in Osun State.
Adeyemi’s arrest came after the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment on an eight-count criminal charge.
According to reports, a video recorded during the interrogation showed investigators asking Adeyemi to identify himself. He reportedly declined, stating that he had already provided his identity to officers who had questioned him earlier.
Justice Mohammed Umar issued the bench warrant after Adeyemi failed to appear before the court to answer charges bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.
The criminal case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was filed by police prosecutors and also names two other defendants expected to stand trial alongside Adeyemi.
The prosecution has listed several witnesses expected to testify during the proceedings, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside other government officials and police officers.
The controversy centres on the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organisation Adeyemi claims to head. The Presidency, however, has maintained that the council is not a recognised government agency and has no legal existence.
Authorities allege that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the head of the organisation and are prosecuting him over allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation. These allegations are yet to be determined by the court.
The case is expected to proceed once Adeyemi is formally arraigned before the Federal High Court.
