The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has raised alarm over an alleged attack on its campaign rally in Ilesa West, accusing suspected political thugs and operatives of the Amotekun Corps of disrupting the event and firing shots at party supporters.

The campaign council, in a statement issued on Saturday, alleged that the Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wale Akerele, alongside armed Amotekun personnel, attacked its members during a peaceful campaign procession.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the APC Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, several party supporters were injured as they attempted to escape the scene.

The council further alleged that four people were shot during the incident, including a 12-year-old boy identified as Oluwatobi Ilesanmi.

The APC campaign council claimed that the injured victims were rushed to a hospital in Ilesa for urgent medical treatment, while calling on the Nigeria Police Force and relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring those found responsible to justice.

Describing the alleged attack as a threat to democratic participation, the party accused unnamed political actors of attempting to intimidate its supporters ahead of the governorship election.

“The Osun APC Campaign Council remains undeterred and will not be intimidated by acts of violence,” the statement said.

The incident has reportedly sparked tension in parts of Ilesa, with residents calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear, while security authorities are expected to provide further details.
