The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30 suspected cultists following a raid on an alleged cult initiation gathering at an uncompleted building in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.
According to the police, the operation was carried out by officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division after receiving credible intelligence about suspicious activities at the location.
Authorities said the suspects had allegedly gathered for cult-related activities, including meetings, chanting, alcohol consumption, and initiation attempts.
Acting on the intelligence report, security operatives stormed the building, disrupted the gathering, and arrested 30 individuals in what the police described as a well-coordinated tactical operation.
During the raid, officers recovered several items, including a jackknife, a local drum, a “sekere” (traditional rattle), and bottles believed to have been used for alcohol consumption. Four vehicles allegedly abandoned by fleeing suspects were also recovered at the scene.
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation, describing the arrests as a reflection of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and its zero-tolerance stance against cultism and violent crime.
He warned that cult-related activities would not be tolerated anywhere in the state and urged young people involved in such groups to renounce criminal associations and embrace lawful conduct.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
Investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other suspects who reportedly escaped during the operation.
