In a powerful display of public outrage, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) joined forces with civil society organisations to stage a massive protest in Lagos on Wednesday, demanding urgent government intervention to tackle the country’s worsening security situation.
The demonstrators, comprising workers, activists, and concerned residents, marched from Ikeja to the Lagos State Government House, carrying placards and banners highlighting the persistent failure of authorities to protect lives and property.
Among the messages displayed, one banner read, “Federal Government: No More Excuses And Rhetorics. End Insecurity Now!” while another declared, “Nigeria is Bleeding, Stop the Criminality Now.” The protesters also underscored that “Security is a fundamental human right,” emphasizing the constitutional duty of the state to safeguard its citizens.
The march drew attention to the alarming rise in killings, kidnappings, and violent crimes across Nigeria, reflecting growing frustration among citizens who feel abandoned amid escalating insecurity.
Leading the protest, the NLC, in collaboration with civil society groups, urged both the Lagos State and Federal Governments to take immediate and concrete measures to curb violence, protect lives, and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
This demonstration in Lagos comes amid a wave of nationwide protests and public pressure as citizens demand decisive action against armed groups and the rising tide of criminality affecting communities across the country.
