Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 33 passengers who were reportedly abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were rescued on Saturday, August 8, after troops received intelligence that terrorists had intercepted and kidnapped commuters travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe.
According to the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force deployed in Tsafe, immediately mobilised to the area following the report.
The security forces reportedly encountered the terrorists while they were moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.
The troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing the attackers to abandon the victims and flee into nearby bushes.
All 33 passengers were successfully rescued without any reported casualty, according to the military.
Following the rescue operation, troops commenced a search of the surrounding area and continued efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, saying their intervention ensured the safe recovery of the passengers.
The military command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, restricting the movement of terrorist groups and securing major transportation routes across the North-West.
Security authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
