Israel has officially backed the proposed two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, aligning with efforts led by U.S. President Donald Trump to temporarily halt escalating military action in the region.
In a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, the government expressed support for Washington’s decision—but with clear conditions. Israel insisted that Iran must immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt all forms of aggression against the U.S., Israel, and allied nations.
“Israel supports President Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, subject to Iran opening the straits and stopping all attacks,” the statement read.
The Israeli government also reaffirmed its long-standing stance that Iran must be prevented from developing what it described as a nuclear, missile, and terror threat to the region and beyond.
According to officials, the United States has reassured Israel that these objectives remain central to ongoing and upcoming negotiations with Tehran.
However, in a significant twist, Israel made it clear that the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, signaling that military tensions involving Iranian-backed groups there could continue despite broader diplomatic efforts.
This development comes amid a fragile diplomatic window, following Iran’s earlier move to present a strict 10-point condition for ending hostilities. Tehran’s demands include the lifting of all U.S. sanctions, recognition of its authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and the withdrawal of American forces from the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical focal point, as its reopening is essential to global oil supply and economic stability.
President Trump had earlier announced the temporary ceasefire after consultations with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, stating that the pause would allow both sides to finalise a long-term peace agreement.
While signals from Washington, Tehran, and Tel Aviv suggest a move toward de-escalation, uncertainty remains high, particularly over unresolved flashpoints like Lebanon.
