The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun issuing candidate upload access codes to political parties ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Labour Party (LP) confirming receipt of the credentials.
The development comes as the Federal High Court in Abuja directed INEC to generate and release fresh registration access codes to the leadership of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) after ruling that an earlier issuance to another faction was unlawful.
Confirming the development, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the party had received the access codes from INEC, enabling it to begin the process of uploading the names of its candidates.
The Labour Party also acknowledged receiving its access credentials, with National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa stating that the codes had been delivered to the party’s National Chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman.
Reports also indicate that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has received its candidate upload access codes, although it remains unclear whether the credentials have been distributed to all nominated candidates amid ongoing disputes arising from some of the party’s primary elections.
Meanwhile, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to issue fresh registration access codes to the Akin Rickett-led leadership of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) within 72 hours.
The court held that the commission acted unlawfully when it previously issued the registration access code to Umar Ardo, who was not recognised by the court as the association’s pro tem secretary.
Justice Lifu further directed INEC to reopen its registration portal for one week, allowing the Rickett-led leadership to upload the association’s membership register and other documents required for political party registration.
The latest developments signal increasing momentum in preparations for the 2027 general elections, as existing political parties begin submitting candidate information while emerging political groups continue legal efforts to secure official registration.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not issued any additional public statement regarding the implementation of the court’s order.
