Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has praised the Nigeria Police Force for the arrest of a suspected political thug allegedly linked to a recent murder in the state, while urging security agencies to intensify efforts to capture other wanted suspects.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor described the arrest of Saheed Kareem Tanfeani as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the killing of Ezekiel Olapade, who was reportedly murdered near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat during last Sunday’s violence.
Governor Adeleke commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, senior police officers, and the Osun State Police Command for the successful operation. However, he stressed that justice would only be fully served when all other suspects linked to the violence are arrested.
The governor specifically called on the police to intensify the manhunt for other wanted individuals, including suspects identified as Asiri Eniba, Delaw, Ojuyobo, Aleba, Lucifer, Lasisi and others allegedly involved in criminal activities across the state.
Adeleke also directed the police to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found guilty faces the full weight of the law.
While welcoming the latest arrest, the governor renewed his call for reforms within the state’s anti-cultism unit, alleging that the continued leadership of an officer identified as Eluku has weakened public confidence due to alleged links with some of the wanted suspects.
“The arrest of Saheed and Akilapa is a welcome development,” the governor said, adding that the government is watching closely to see the police sustain the operation by bringing all those responsible for the violence to justice.
The Osun State Government reiterated its commitment to supporting security agencies in restoring peace and ensuring that criminal elements are held accountable for their actions.
