An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded on Wednesday afternoon in Mubang village, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, triggering fresh panic in a community still reeling from recent Boko Haram violence.
Residents told SUNTV Global Channel that the explosion occurred at about 2:00pm, sending villagers fleeing in fear. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
“We thank God nobody was killed,” a resident said while fleeing the area.
The latest incident comes barely days after a deadly Boko Haram raid on Mubang and neighbouring communities. On December 29, 2025, suspected Boko Haram fighters stormed Zah and Mubang villages in Yadul, Garaha District of Hong LGA, killing at least 14 people and injuring others.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived at about 6:16pm, unleashing violence that claimed the lives of elders and youths, while homes and food supplies were destroyed, forcing many families to flee.
Confirming Wednesday’s explosion, the Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Usman Inuwa, said he was informed shortly after the blast.
“Yes, at about 2pm today, I was alerted that a bomb exploded in Mubang, under Garaha District,” he said.
Garaha District is the hometown of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
The explosion has raised fears of renewed insurgent activity in the area, with residents suspecting that explosives may have been planted following the recent Boko Haram attack.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said he needed time to gather details of the incident. As of the time of filing this report, no official update had been provided.
Residents say the situation has deepened anxiety in the community, as many families are yet to recover from the earlier attacks.
With repeated assaults, displacement and now explosive threats, locals are questioning the effectiveness of ongoing security operations and calling for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives.
