Fresh concerns over insecurity have emerged in Kaduna State after armed bandits attacked a mosque in Unguwan Namama village, Giwa Local Government Area, killing one worshipper and abducting several others.
The deadly attack reportedly occurred on Friday night at about 8:00 p.m. while residents were observing evening prayers.
According to local sources, the heavily armed attackers laid siege to the community and opened fire on worshippers as they exited the mosque, causing panic and chaos.
One worshipper, identified as Adamu Ibraheem, was killed during the assault, while several others sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
A relative of the deceased, Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the tragic incident, describing it as a devastating loss to the family and the community.
Witnesses said the gunmen abducted an unspecified number of residents during the operation before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to confirm the exact number of those kidnapped or injured.
The latest attack comes despite repeated assurances by the Kaduna State Government that significant progress has been made in combating banditry and restoring security across troubled communities.
Residents of Giwa Local Government Area have repeatedly raised concerns over recurring attacks, kidnappings, and violent raids carried out by armed groups operating within the region.
Security agencies are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident, while efforts to track down the attackers are reportedly ongoing.
