A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced businessman Chris Uba as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the conclusion of its internal selection process.

The announcement was made during a party gathering in Abuja, where factional leaders also presented flags to governorship candidates across multiple states in Nigeria.

The faction’s National Chairman explained that the presidential ticket was zoned to Southern Nigeria in line with the party’s principles of equity, fairness, and federal character. He noted that several aspirants initially obtained nomination forms but later stepped down in favour of a consensus arrangement.

According to party officials, the ADC adopted a consensus model under the provisions of the Electoral Act, leading to Chris Uba’s emergence as the sole presidential candidate after other aspirants reportedly withdrew from the race.

The leadership further stated that the decision was taken in the interest of unity and internal stability within the party ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

However, the development comes amid reports of internal divisions within the ADC, as another faction had earlier produced a different presidential candidate following separate primaries conducted across the country.

Political observers say the emergence of parallel candidates from different party factions highlights ongoing leadership struggles and disputes over legitimacy within the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
