Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George, has strongly responded to allegations made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the ownership of his Abuja residence, threatening to take legal action against the minister.
Speaking during a television interview, George dismissed Wike’s claim that his Maitama property was acquired with funds belonging to Rivers State, describing the allegation as false and defamatory.
The PDP elder statesman stated that he purchased the house through an agent from a retired civil servant and insisted that the property has no connection whatsoever to Rivers State funds.
George also launched a personal attack on Wike, alleging that the minister had previously been publicly disowned by his biological father. He further questioned Wike’s conduct and described his allegations as irresponsible and without evidence.
According to George, it is beneath his status to engage in prolonged exchanges with the FCT minister, but he said the seriousness of the accusations had compelled him to respond.
He announced plans to institute legal proceedings against Wike, insisting that the minister would be required to substantiate his claims before a court of law.
George also urged those close to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distance the President from Wike, arguing that the minister’s actions and public comments were not in the best interest of the government.
The dispute follows remarks made by Wike during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, where the FCT minister challenged Bode George to explain the ownership of his Maitama residence, alleging that the property was linked to Rivers State funds.
Wike maintained that public officials who accuse others of corruption should also be prepared to explain the sources of their own assets and wealth.
The latest exchange has further intensified the ongoing political tension between the two senior PDP figures, with legal action now expected to determine the outcome of the controversy.
