Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded another major success in the fight against illegal arms proliferation in Taraba State, with the arrest of suspected gun runners and the recovery of weapons and ammunition during intelligence-led operations.
SUNTV Global Channel reports that troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, working in collaboration with operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), carried out the operations following weeks of sustained surveillance and careful operational planning.
The crackdown began with the arrest of two suspected gun runners, identified as Christopher Adamu and James Yangyang, who were apprehended at Sebos Joint in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo Local Government Area, and Tautre Village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area on January 11 and 12, 2026, respectively.
Building on the breakthrough, troops acted on credible and actionable intelligence to conduct a coordinated cordon-and-search operation at Murubai Village in Ardo-Kola LGA. During the operation, soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and four rounds of live ammunition from the residence of a suspected arms trafficker, Mr. Bazoe John, who is currently on the run.
In a statement made available to SUNTV Global Channel, the Public Relations Officer of 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said the operation was executed with professionalism, restraint, and respect for civil authority, adding that it was concluded without any casualties or incidents.
He disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover additional weapons as part of sustained measures to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their courage, dedication, and professionalism. He noted that the success highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the Nigerian Army’s determination to decisively tackle arms trafficking and other criminal activities.
The commander urged the troops to sustain the momentum while maintaining the highest standards of discipline and respect for civil authority, assuring them of continuous support from higher headquarters.
The operation, according to the Army, further reinforces the commitment of the 6 Brigade and Operation Whirl Stroke to safeguarding lives and property, as well as ensuring lasting peace and stability in Taraba State and its surrounding areas.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that collective vigilance remains critical to sustaining peace and security.
