OSOGBO, Nigeria — The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that securing victory in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election is a top priority for the ruling party.
Speaking during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the election, Yilwatda described the poll as a crucial test ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the party would deploy governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, local government officials, councillors, and other party leaders to support its campaign across the state.
He said the APC would adopt an extensive grassroots strategy, including house-to-house and community-based mobilisation, to canvass support for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
According to the APC chairman, governors from different geopolitical zones will be assigned to specific senatorial districts in Osun to coordinate campaign activities alongside lawmakers and party officials.
Yilwatda expressed confidence that the APC’s nationwide political structure, experienced leadership, and growing membership would strengthen its chances of winning the election.
He also noted that the Osun governorship poll would serve as the party’s final major electoral exercise before the 2027 general elections, describing it as an opportunity to test and fine-tune the APC’s campaign machinery ahead of the national polls.
The APC said it would intensify grassroots engagement by mobilising women, youths, community leaders, and party supporters across Osun State in the weeks leading to the election.
