The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has escalated after the faction led by former Senate President David Mark announced the expulsion of 11 party members over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was taken during the party’s National Convention held on April 14, 2026, at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the expelled individuals were accused of actions deemed contrary to the party’s constitution and core values.
“The affected individuals cease to be members of the African Democratic Congress with immediate effect,” Abdullahi said, adding that they are free to join other political platforms.
Among those expelled are the factional national chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and House of Representatives member Leke Abejide. Others include Kenneth Ehiator, Kingsley Temitope Ogga, Don Norman Obinna, Kennedy Odion, Clement Ehigiator, Stella Chukwuma, Patrick Ambut, Johny Tovie Derek, Duke Dick, and Elias Adikwu.
According to the party, the expulsions followed the adoption of a disciplinary motion moved by Senator Binos Yaroe and ratified by delegates at the convention.
The faction maintained that the action reflects its commitment to internal discipline, accountability, and the rule of law amid ongoing disputes within the party.
The development comes against the backdrop of a deepening leadership tussle within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national structure.
The crisis has also spilled into the courts, with pending cases at the Supreme Court expected to determine key issues surrounding the party’s leadership and legitimacy.
Legal counsel to the party, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN), had earlier confirmed that the apex court granted accelerated hearing of appeals related to the dispute, focusing first on whether the leadership question is justiciable.
Meanwhile, tensions surrounding the convention were heightened by allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, attempted to pressure the event venue to withdraw hosting rights.
With expulsions now formalised and legal battles ongoing, the ADC’s internal conflict appears far from over, raising fresh concerns about the party’s stability ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
