Three unarmed women have been brutally killed while working on their farmland amid a fresh outbreak of communal violence in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, SUNTV Global Channel reports.
The victims were attacked on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at a farm near Tigno village, as renewed hostilities between Bachama and Chobo communities plunged the area into fear and tension once again.
Confirming the incident, the Adamawa State Police Command said the women were murdered during what it described as a “renewed Lamurde tribal conflict.” The police disclosed that the attack was allegedly carried out by suspected Bachama youths amid the escalating communal crisis.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said security operatives responded swiftly after receiving distress reports from the area.
“The Adamawa State Police Command has swiftly responded to the renewed Lamurde tribal conflict between the Bachama and Chobo, which resulted in the killing of three women on their farmland around Tigno village in Lamurde Local Government Area,” Nguroje stated.
He revealed that acting on credible intelligence, police arrested two suspects in connection with the killings. The suspects were identified as William Joshua, 30, and Ezekiel Luka, 23, both residents of Tigno in Lamurde LGA.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations led to the recovery of 29 rounds of live ammunition, one AK-47 rifle magazine, and the sum of ₦90,000 in cash from the suspects—raising concerns over the involvement of armed elements in the deadly attack.
Nguroje added that the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, has appealed to residents of the area to remain calm, assuring them that justice will be served.
“The Commissioner of Police has appealed for calm and assured the public that the Command is doing everything humanly and legally possible to bring not only the perpetrators but also their sponsors and instigators to justice,” he said.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are said to be cooperating with investigators, as security agencies intensify patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent reprisal attacks and further bloodshed.
The killing of the women—described by residents as innocent farmers with no involvement in the communal dispute—has sparked outrage and deepened fear across Lamurde communities. The tragic incident once again underscores the devastating human cost of Nigeria’s recurring communal conflicts, where helpless civilians continue to pay the ultimate price.
