KYIV, UKRAINE — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that at least nine people were killed and dozens injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack targeting Kyiv and several other regions across Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces fired 35 missiles, including 27 ballistic missiles, along with 185 attack drones, causing extensive damage to residential buildings, a school, the Lithuanian Embassy, and critical infrastructure.
“Nine people have been reported killed in this attack. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Dozens of people were injured, and medical teams are assisting everyone in need,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian President disclosed that seven districts of Kyiv were affected, with at least 18 residential buildings, a school, diplomatic property, and key infrastructure sustaining damage.
Zelenskyy also revealed that only one ballistic missile was intercepted during the assault, blaming the outcome on a shortage of Patriot air defence interceptors supplied by Ukraine’s Western allies.
He renewed his appeal for additional Patriot missile systems, warning that delays in military assistance are costing civilian lives.
“Every package of ballistic missile interceptors saves lives. Every night without them results in more casualties,” he said.
The latest bombardment comes as Russia continues to intensify its long-range missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, while Kyiv urges its international partners to accelerate the delivery of advanced air defence systems.
The conflict, now entering another intense phase, continues to place millions of civilians at risk as both sides remain locked in a prolonged war with no immediate end in sight.
