Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an alleged Boko Haram/ISWAP operation in Yobe State, killing one suspected terrorist, recovering weapons and logistics items, and forcing several others to flee with gunshot wounds.
According to a statement issued by the military, the successful operation followed credible intelligence that terrorists were travelling in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities in the state.
The troops, drawn from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched a coordinated fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis, where they engaged the suspected terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange, one of the vehicles used by the insurgents was destroyed, while its driver was neutralised. Four other suspected terrorists reportedly escaped into nearby bushes after sustaining gunshot injuries.
A follow-up clearance operation conducted the following day led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to have supported the group’s operations.
Recovered items included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, empty ammunition cases, assorted drugs and mechanical tools allegedly used for terrorist logistics.
Military authorities said the operation disrupted the insurgents’ funding network by preventing the collection of illegal taxes from local residents, describing the mission as another major setback for Boko Haram/ISWAP activities in the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist logistics, disrupting illicit revenue sources and restoring lasting peace across the region.
The military also called on members of the public to continue providing credible information that will support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
