Security operatives in Delta State have arrested a suspected notorious kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, following a fierce gun battle during a rescue operation that also led to the safe recovery of an abducted woman.
The victim, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, an indigene of Umunede Kingdom, was abducted on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. The kidnappers were reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for her release.
According to security advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, the incident was immediately reported to the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, who launched an intelligence-driven operation to rescue the victim.
Using the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, security operatives successfully located and rescued Mrs. Chiedu alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
Following the rescue, officers continued the pursuit of the fleeing suspects. The overnight manhunt reportedly ended at about 6:45 a.m., when surveillance technology traced the gang to a hideout inside the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
A gun battle ensued as the operatives stormed the hideout. During the exchange, Abubakar Usman was arrested, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped deeper into the forest with their weapons.
Investigators believe the suspect and his gang are linked to several kidnapping operations across Igbodo, Umunede, and neighbouring communities, where families of victims were allegedly forced to pay millions of naira in ransom.
Harrison Gwamnishu praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and DSP Paul Xdot for what he described as a successful and coordinated operation that secured the victim’s release and led to the arrest of one of the area’s most wanted kidnapping suspects.
Police authorities are expected to continue the manhunt for the remaining members of the gang as investigations continue.
