A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general elections, Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, has rejected his party chairman’s call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign over the country’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement titled “A Message of Hope to the Nigerian People: Nigeria Shall Rise Again,” Kingsley distanced himself from the position earlier taken by PRP National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who had urged President Tinubu to step down, accusing the administration of failing to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

Kingsley acknowledged the hardship facing many Nigerians, including rising insecurity, unemployment, economic challenges, and the high cost of living. However, he insisted that the country’s democratic system already provides constitutional processes for leadership change.

According to him, rather than demanding the President’s resignation, Nigerians should focus on strengthening democratic institutions and preparing for the 2027 general elections.

The PRP aspirant also expressed sympathy to families affected by insecurity and to businesses struggling under current economic conditions, saying the nation’s challenges cut across ethnic, religious and political divides.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Kingsley said he grew up in a humble family in Auchi, Edo State, where he hawked pap before attending school. He added that the experience shaped his commitment to public service and improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

He also highlighted his 25-year career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), stating that his experience in engineering, petroleum infrastructure and national planning convinced him that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a lack of resources but the absence of visionary leadership and institutional discipline.

Kingsley said his proposed YMK Nigeria Project focuses on improving national security, electricity supply, industrialisation, agriculture, youth empowerment, infrastructure, transparent governance and economic diversification.

He maintained that Nigeria has the resources and human capacity to become one of the world’s leading economies if provided with competent leadership and responsible governance.

The statement comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates intensifying over the country’s security and economic direction.
