A video circulating online has sparked outrage after allegedly showing heavily armed men moving freely through a police checkpoint along the Zamfara-Sokoto axis without any form of resistance or interception.
In the footage obtained by SaharaTV, dozens of armed men riding motorcycles were seen passing through the checkpoint while police officers appeared to wave at and direct them as they continued their journey.
The incident has triggered fresh concerns over security operations in Nigeria’s troubled North-West region, where armed groups have continued to launch attacks, abductions, and raids despite ongoing military and police deployments.
A voice believed to be that of a passenger recording the video was heard speaking in Hausa, expressing shock at the scene.
“Armed men with their weapons are moving freely,” the individual reportedly said before another occupant of the vehicle quickly cautioned him to remain silent.
Security sources indicated that the incident occurred recently along the Zamfara-Sokoto route, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks linked to criminal gangs operating across parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Niger states.
The video has since generated widespread reactions, with many Nigerians demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and questioning how armed individuals were allegedly able to pass through a security checkpoint without being stopped.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the footage as of the time of this report.
