Nigeria recorded at least 98 major security incidents, including homicides, kidnappings, armed robberies, banditry attacks and terrorism-related cases, across 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within a seven-day period, according to a newly released security report.
The report, which covered June 7 to June 13, 2026, highlights the continuing security challenges facing the country despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb violent crime.
According to the data, a total of 37 homicide cases, 24 kidnappings, 27 banditry attacks, eight armed robbery incidents and two terrorism-related attacks were documented nationwide during the reporting period.
Zamfara State recorded the highest number of incidents, emerging as the worst-affected state with seven homicide cases, six kidnappings and seven banditry attacks reported within the week.
Niger State followed closely, recording four homicide cases, three kidnappings, seven banditry attacks, one armed robbery incident and one terrorism-related attack.
Kogi State also ranked among the most affected states, with authorities documenting three homicide cases, one kidnapping, one armed robbery incident and five banditry attacks.
In Sokoto State, three homicide cases, one kidnapping and three banditry incidents were reported, while Gombe State recorded three homicide cases and one armed robbery attack.
Ogun State registered four homicide cases, two kidnappings, one armed robbery incident and one banditry attack. Oyo State recorded two homicide cases, one kidnapping and one armed robbery case.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was not spared, with one homicide and two kidnapping incidents reported during the week under review.
Other affected states included Benue, Ekiti, Rivers, Kaduna, Katsina, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Cross River, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Osun, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom and Bauchi, all of which recorded varying degrees of violent criminal activities.
The report further revealed that the only two terrorism-related incidents documented nationwide occurred in Niger and Zamfara states.
Despite the alarming figures, security agencies stated that efforts are ongoing to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve operational effectiveness and enhance collaboration among the police, military and local security outfits.
Authorities also noted that strategic engagements and coordinated security operations were being intensified to address emerging threats and improve public safety across the country.
The latest figures underscore growing concerns among Nigerians over persistent insecurity, particularly in states battling banditry, kidnapping and violent criminal activities.
