AIR PEACE GROUNDS AIRCRAFT AFTER BIRD STRIKE, CANCELS WARRI-LAGOS FLIGHT

Air Peace has suspended its scheduled Warri-to-Lagos flight after one of its aircraft was struck by birds while landing at Osubi Airport in Delta State.

The incident occurred during the aircraft’s arrival at the airport, a major aviation hub serving Warri and surrounding communities. Despite the bird strike, the flight crew successfully landed the aircraft safely without any reported injuries.

Following the landing, the aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service and handed over to Air Peace engineers for detailed technical inspections.

According to a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, preliminary assessments revealed that additional examinations were required on the aircraft’s landing gear system before it could be cleared for further operations.

“Initial inspections indicated the need for further checks on the landing gear, leading to the grounding of the aircraft in line with established aviation safety procedures,” the statement said.

As a result, the return flight from Osubi to Lagos was cancelled to allow engineers to conduct comprehensive safety evaluations.

Air Peace explained that bird strikes can potentially affect critical aircraft components, making extensive inspections mandatory before the aircraft can resume service.

To reduce the impact on affected passengers, the airline said it has provided hotel accommodation in Osubi and is making alternative travel arrangements to transport passengers to Lagos as soon as possible.

The airline expressed regret over the disruption and apologized to customers whose travel plans were affected.

“At Air Peace, safety remains our highest priority. While we regret the inconvenience caused, every operational decision is guided by our commitment to the highest safety standards and regulatory compliance,” the airline stated.

Air Peace also thanked passengers for their patience and understanding, assuring them that updates regarding alternative travel plans and flight schedules would be communicated promptly.

SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as they emerge.
