The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a father and his son alongside three other suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations that uncovered illegal firearms and stolen property across different parts of the state.
The coordinated operations led to the recovery of four firearms, including locally made pistols and Dane guns, as well as a stolen Tecno Android phone valued at ₦180,000.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, operatives attached to the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, following investigations into a reported theft case.
Police investigations revealed that Waliu allegedly stole a Tecno Android phone from a residential apartment on May 8, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, officers tracked down the suspect and successfully recovered the stolen device.
Further investigations reportedly led security operatives to the suspects’ residence, where a search warrant was executed. During the search, police discovered a locally fabricated pistol and a Dane gun hidden inside the house.
“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine their level of involvement and identify possible accomplices,” the statement noted.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ilisan Remo Division recovered another locally made pistol and one live cartridge abandoned around the Ilisan Remo Roundabout during a routine patrol conducted on May 27, 2026.
Police authorities confirmed that the recovered firearm has been secured at the division’s armoury pending further investigation into its origin and ownership.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Ode Remo Division also arrested a 25-year-old suspect identified as Inioluwa Adesanya over the alleged theft of a Dane gun belonging to a resident in Ode Remo.
According to police findings, the suspect allegedly gained access to the victim’s residence under the guise of working as a carpenter’s assistant during renovation activities before stealing the firearm.
During interrogation, Adesanya reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted being a member of the notorious Aye confraternity. He also allegedly revealed that the Dane gun had been modified to make concealment easier.
Police authorities disclosed that all suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the successful operations, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved for their professionalism, swift response, and intelligence-driven policing strategy.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the crackdown on cultism, armed robbery, violent crimes, and illegal possession of firearms across the state.
“The Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property through proactive security operations and effective intelligence gathering,” the police commissioner stated.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
