Oyo State Governor, , has assured families of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area that security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure their safe release.
In a message issued during the Children’s Day and Eid celebrations, Governor Makinde said the state government remains deeply concerned about the victims and is working closely with security operatives to ensure their rescue.
According to the governor, authorities are committed to restoring peace and protecting communities affected by recent attacks in parts of Oyo State.
The assurance comes amid growing tension following the reported abduction of pupils, students, and school staff during attacks on schools in the Ahoro-Esiele community of Oriire LGA.
The incident sparked protests in Ogbomosho, where teachers and education stakeholders demanded urgent government intervention and stronger security measures for schools across the state.
Demonstrators expressed concern over the increasing vulnerability of schools to attacks, calling on authorities to improve protection for students and educators.
Reports indicated that armed attackers invaded LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in the area, allegedly killing a teacher and abducting several victims.
Disturbing videos later surfaced online showing some of the abducted victims pleading for help from the government, religious organisations, and the public.
Among those seen in the footage were a nursing mother identified as a staff member of First Baptist Church in Ogbomosho and the principal of Community High School, Esiele, Mrs. Racheal Alamu, both appealing for urgent intervention.
In response to the attack, the Oyo State Government said security agencies had blocked possible escape routes around the National Park axis while coordinated rescue efforts continue.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters stated that the attackers were believed to be terrorists linked to the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction, describing them as criminal elements displaced by military operations in other regions.
The military also dismissed claims that insecurity in the South-West was being ignored, insisting that security forces remain fully committed to tracking and neutralising armed groups responsible for recent attacks.
As rescue operations continue, concern remains high among parents, residents, and education stakeholders over the safety of schools and communities in Oyo State.
